December 18 2024. I hosted the lab for our Holiday Party this year. The food was amazing but the company was even better! We celebrated with our significant others and rotation students, and had a blast playing Taboo and Culture Tags. I’m already looking forward to next year’s celebration.
December 5, 2024. The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics annual retreat in the Poconos at Skytop Lodge was fun! HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Madhura for winning the 1st place poster prize for best presentation!

I nominated Bohdana for the Best Lab Manager of the year award for 2024. Out of over 350 international nominations, she was amongst the top 5 finalists, which was decided by voting on Proteintech’s website. In our hearts, she is the BEST LAB MANAGER ever!
September 2024
The lab welcomed the newest rotation student, Tristan Wrong, to the team. Tristan received her BS in Biochemistry and Chemical Biology from Wayne State University.
We also welcomed the addition of a new undergraduate, Ariana Arabadjiev, to the team. Ariana is an incoming sophomore at Penn planning on majoring in Physics.
August 30th 2024: Dr. Taabazuing is featured in the Australaisian Cell Death Society (ACDS) Newsletter.
JULY 29 2024
The lab was awarded an NIH NIGMS R35 MIRA Grant. This funding will support our work for the next 5 years to uncover the regulation of innate immunity.
June 20th 2024.
Dr. Taabazuing is awarded the Black in Cancer Young Investigator Award. Research funds are provided by the Emerald Foundation to fund our work on developing new cancer immunotherapies.
Congrats to the winners of the postdoc awards, Drs. Whitney Henry and Mike Oliphant. Huge thank you to the Black in Cancer organization and movement and to Dr. James Mahaffey of the Emerald Foundation for selecting our proposal!
We hosted Dr. Freeman Hrabowski III for the second annual Juneteenth Lecture. Dr. Hrabowski delivered an inspiring message about cultivating inclusive excellence to a crowd of ~675.
